Fall Conference Mania

Posted by Heather on Aug 6, 2013 in WRITING TIPS |

typewriterA few weeks more and we’ll find ourselves winding down from our summer routines and gearing up for fall– a busy time in the publishing industry, a busy time for writers! I, for one, will be on a plane headed to Colorado to attend a conference. Is anyone else looking forward to a con? Let’s take a look at a few coming soon.

SEPTEMBER

Slice Literary Writer’s Conference: This con takes place Sept 7-8th in Brooklyn, NY. Click HERE for more details.

New York Pitch Conference: This runs Sept 19th-22nd. Writers must apply and be selected to attend. For more information click HERE.

Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers: Denver, CO is the home of this excellent conference and runs Sept 20th-22nd. (I’ll actually be speaking here about forming and maintaining online critique groups.) This conference has a wonderful reputation and a highly competitive novel contest divided by genres. Winners will be announced at the Saturday night banquet. Click HERE for more details.

Fiction Fest: This con is in Hartford, CT Sept 20th-22nd. It’s the CT division of Romance Writers of America, though writers from any genre can attend and benefit from the panels, workshops, and agent meetings. Click HERE for more details.

Writer’s Digest West: This massive conference takes place in Los Angeles, CA Sept 27th-29th. This is a great place to pitch not only novels but screenplays. Click HERE for more details.

OCTOBER

Auburn Writers Conference: This con runs Oct 18th-19th and covers not only publishing industry info, but writing as an art form. For details click HERE.

Muse Online Conference: You can stay right at home and attend this conference! The dates are Oct 8th-14th. For more information click HERE.

Salt Cay Writers Retreat: Join the amazing NYT Bestselling authors & agents in the BAHAMAS for a writing retreat and pitch sessions. It takes places Oct 20th-26th. Half-week and full week registrations are available. For more info, click HERE.

What are your favorite conferences? Is there one you’d really like to attend but haven’t yet?

I’m dying to go to my first real writers’ conference—I just can’t seem to find any that don’t require a plane ride from Florida. I’ve heard such wonderful things about RMFO. Your session sounds fantastic! I hope you post some of your presentation online after, as I’m still searching for that “perfect” online critique group and would appreciate any tips. Have a wonderful time!

Kerry Ann, I’d be happy to chat with you about finding critique groups. Actually, I know a few women looking for partners…drop me an email if you like to discuss. :)
